Dear client:
In Scharlab we have detected that storage temperature statements in labels and technical data sheets (TDS) cause confusions in some clients or end users, particularly in room temperature storage conditions.
That is why Scharlab will implement the following change:
1 Background
Scharlab had historically not declared any temperature range for “room temperature storage condition” products that do no require active temperature monitoring. This caused some problems to certain clients that requested an explicit range value. In order to satisfy those clients, Scharlab applied a range value of 15-25ºC for those products. This range was chosen based on what is considered internationally in chemistry as “Normal Temperature and Pressure” (NTP), as defined by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is 20ºC and 1 atm.
Most clients accepted the change, but some others started to consider that, if there is a stated range in the TDS and label, then that limit needs to be exactly fulfilled and monitored. Other clients requested to expand the range, which Scharlab did, to 10-30ºC.
2 Current situation
A.
Scharlab has different requirements from clients regarding storage conditions declarations for room temperature storage: some clients require an explicit range, others consider that the range is strict, and other clients also consider continuous active temperature monitoring is needed.
B.
Scharlab declares, for all Scharlau® chemical products that can be stored at room temperature, that the storage temperature is 10-30ºC. This is declared both in TDS and label.
C.
Scharlab does not consider that continuous active temperature monitoring is needed for room temperature storage conditions.
3 Description of the change
A.
Temperature ranges will be deleted from labels for products that at the moment state storage condition 10-30ºC
B.
Temperature ranges will be deleted from TDS for products that at the moment state storage condition 10-30ºC, and, instead, a statement of room temperature storage conditions will be added, with no explicit range.
C.
In Safety Data Sheets (SDS), storage conditions will be referred to the label or TDS.
D.
Scharlab will create a Storage Conditions Policy and publish it in the corporate website.
4 Reasons for the change

Avoidance of unnecessary temperature monitoring.

Collaboration with clients to make a more efficient use of resources.
5 Products affected by the change
Scharlau® chemicals with currently declared storage temperature condition in the range of 10-30°C
5.1 Exclusions
This change does not affect:
•
Scharlau® chemicals with currently declared storage temperature condition in a range other than 10-30°C.
•
transport temperatures
•
other transport or storage conditions, such as humidity, tight containers or light exposure.
•

5.2 Special consideration for custom-made products
Changes on Scharlau® custom-made products will only be applied after the end user accepts the change, or an alternative agreed solution.
6 Impact on the quality
This change is not expected to impact the quality of the products. It is only a clarification of the storage conditions. It does not imply a change in specification, methods of analysis, raw material, facilities, stability nor manufacturing process.
7 Expected implementation timeline
This change is expected to be implemented gradually during 2025. No exact date can be stated because the change implies an important amount of work in different databases, and impacts thousands of products. If necessary, the implementation timeline can be extended up to 2026.
